wildes & weinberg hosts presentation for start-ups

On January 29, 2014, Wildes & Weinberg was pleased to host a presentation for start-up companies at its New York offices.
Appreciating the challenge that start-up companies have in harnessing the talent that exists within New York City’s immigrant community, Managing Partner Michael J. Wildes led a seminar covering immigration considerations for start-ups with an overview of the non-immigrant visa categories, requirements for eligibility for businesses and employees, employee/beneficiary issues, as well as potential solutions to those challenges.
The seminar, which was attended by 40 businesspeople and entrepreneurs,  included an introduction to U.S. visa issues, with topics including employment visas (H-1B, E-1/E-2, TN, L-1 and O-1), student visas (F-1), and investment immigration procedures and process.  Michael also discussed how to become a U.S. citizen and the advantages of doing so.  He also outlined information on employer compliance, sanctions, and the anti-discrimination provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. He covered Form I-9, proper record keeping, best practices, update on E-verify, and employment discrimination information.
The seminar was followed by a lively question and answer session.
