asylum applicants no longer provided method to apply for asylum at border

Wildes & Weinberg Firm Alert: Asylum Applicants no longer provided method to apply for Asylum at the Border.

In a recent Executive Order, President Trump has ended the use of the CBP One app as a method for seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Launched in 2023, the app allowed asylum seekers to schedule appointments with U.S. Border Patrol at official entry points, processing one million people since its inception. As of May 11, 2023, applicants who had not registered for appointments with the CBP One app and thereafter entered without inspection were ineligible to apply for asylum, with narrow exceptions.

As such, with this new Executive Order, applying for asylum at the border has effectively ceased. This Executive Order has been challenged in federal court.
